starter maybe...?

put new engine in my car and i have about 12:1 compression. i went to try to start it and the motor is turning over really slow. it seems like its trying to fire but wont could it be that the starter doesnt have enough power to crank it? or could it maybe be the battery? i just charged the batt. today but maybe i just need a new one. what do you guys think?
Thanks

Re: starter maybe...?

A 12:1 motor could use a better starter but the stock one should turn it over just fine. What's your voltage during cranking? If under 10volts, I'd say you r batter is too weak or too small.
