Starter bolt broke.

Alright so the other day i was takeing my starter off and the bolt where the battery conects, the thicker guage wire, just broke off. So i took it out and i ended up buying a remanufactured AC delco starter with a lifetime warrenty from Oreileys. I asked them if i could just replace that bolt and they said no, then i asked if i could just replace the solenoid but noone carried one. So is there anything else i could have done or was a new starter inevitable.

I guess i could have taken it apart or taken it to a local alternator/starter rebuilder and seen what he would have done but this is my daily driver and i didnt have time for it.

Yup, same thing happened to me but fortunately I had time to run to a rebuilder and they put in a new solenoid in about 3 minutes and it cost next to nothing.

Thumbs up Re: Starter bolt broke.

A lot of LT1 owners go with the LT4 starter as it is a reduction gear design that has more torque. But the solenoid does not unbolt like the older small block Chevy's. A rebuild shop in Ft. Worth told me he can replace the solenoid and they drill and tap screw hole in the solenoid case so it will mount to the starter motor. My solenoid is starting to act up ( the clicking sound when you hit the key) but after several times it finally turns over. So it is time for a fix. I like the Lifetime replacement you were talking about as I was going to have mine rebuilt.

Is the lt4 the same for install? are the internals the only difference between the lt1 and the lt4 starter?
