started disassembling today....
got the motor on the stand today and got the intake and heads off. and found about what i had expected...... a hole in a piston.
daylight limited my progress so before i get into it again tomorrow any suggestions on pulling the hub that holds the crank pulley so i can get the timing chain and cover off and what is the best way to pull the crank and pistons. is it easier to pull the main caps then diconnect all the rods. or should i take off the rods then the main caps or what???
never done a full rebuild so any help would be great!!
thanks

You'll need a puller to remove the Hub. As far as the crank and pistons...I would remove the pistons first before removing the caps on the crankshaft. Thats the way I did it anyways cause you might need to get a dead blow hammer of rubber mallet to tap the rods loose off the shaft. Sometimes they stick on pretty well. Especially if you spun some bearings like I did. You don't want the shaft a loose while you tap it around. Even though it weighs a million pounds.
For what its worth. Never touched an engine either before I did my rebuild last month. Just follow instructions and TAKE YOUR TIME!!! I repeat Take your time. Dropped mine in. One touch of the ignition and it started. Also Mine wasn't a rebuild. I went from stock to the mods below in one fell swoop.
Thanks of course to everyone on the board.
80% planning .....20% doing.

Before I blew my motor, I installed cam, heads, headers, rr's by myself. But doing it first time I was sloppy and didn't have any experience. Then my motor locked up....
I took my dissasembled shortblock to the shop, the guy sharged $500 for the labor, which included rebuilt, putting heads on, installing the cam, putting oil pan on, timing cover, plus priming the engine. I thought about doing it myself, but then I realised that one mistake would cost me so much work and money. If you don't have a friend who would help you on a rebuilt, don't try it. However, it all depends on how much experience you have. My .02
