standard sbc heads on a lt1

Is it possible to put standard sbc heads (1955-1986, reg water flow) on our lt1 blocks. What clearencing would have to be done to the water passages to make it work, and what would have to be done to the lt1 (or lt4, which ever is closer) intake manifold to make it bolt on.

the standard heads would need to have the water passages welded up,and new 1's redrilled. As far as intakes, you could run any first gen style,or redrill the lt1/4 intake for the standard heads.

You have to weld up the water passages on the intake side of the head and machine some new passages on the deck surface. You need to open the crossover tube holes in the back of the heads. There are also oil return holes in the front and rear of the heads that need to be added.

Since the holes in the intake manifold don't line up, you will need to drill and tap new ones in the heads to match up. The front and rear holes however, are in the right location but at the wrong angle. You either machine the manifold to match the holes, weld and redrill the holes, or don't run bolts in them (it won't leak).

Depending on the exhaust ports and bolt pattern on the heads, you might need to get the headers modified to fit.

The valve covers will need to be modified to clear the alternator.

Bolts right up.

What about using a oldstyle block and heads. Is there any way to adapt our style of fuel injection (via holley commander or something) to a holley flange manifold. Ive seen it done with carburators, but never with fuelinjection. Im affraid that by the time you get done with the fuel injection the cost saved on the heads and block will be cancelled out.

I'm confused as to what it is you're asking.

If you use a first gen block and heads and a "holley" flange (4150/4500) manifold, what exactly are you carrying over from the LT??
I guess you mean the computer? The only problem I can see there is the opti signal... how do you get an opti signal without an opti?? Maybe Fred or one of the guys more familar with the factory comp can help you there.
FWIW, the older gen Accel DFI stuff is pretty cheap these days and it's easy to work with.
