stalling problem

hows it going people
heres my issue i have a 1996 z28 auto it has just under 90000 miles
i just bought car from a lady that had it sitting for at least a year
first time it stalled out i had just started out on my way to work
and about 1` mile started to feel like fuel pump was dying out
then car stalled out after e few trys i could get it to start by pumping the
hell out of gas pedal then ran fine (smelled bad but i figured that was gas from pumping so much) i figured it was mayby bad gas it was real low
so i filled it with super car ran fine for 2 days until yesterday when i left work
it felt like fuel pump was cutting out but no stalling and it went away in a few miles ,then today got 1/4 mile from my house and it died i could get it started by pumping gas pedal but it kept stalling but i was able to get it started and make it back home ,i'm thinking mayby fuel filter perhaps its a little clogged from sitting any help anybody can give will be great
this is my first camaro after haveing 6 mustang gts so i'm a little lost under the hood so to speak
thanks in advance for any advise

Any mods to the car? Does the vehicle startup after it has cooled for a few minutes? Any misfire's when it is running? Do you know of vehicles history? Maintenance?

A fuel filter replacement would be a good place to start, if for no other reason than routine maintenance. You need to put a fuel pressure gauge on the system so you can accurately diagnose the problem. Searching this forum will get you plenty of answers.

besides a k&n air filter set up it is stock and lady before took good care of it always used gm parts , i figured i'd do the filter first and see if it helps i'd thro a pump in just to rule it out but they are like 250.00 (i'm finding the big diffrence with mustang and camaro is PARTS PRICE) ,but i got this car at a fair price so theres no turning back now thansk for the help after all this i still love the car

Did you try the filter?

What about trying a fuel pressure gage show you don't waste money on a pump that may not need replacing?

I suggest having the fuel system professionally cleaned with something like the 3M fuel system cleaner. After having set for so long, the fuel system may ALSO have deposits built up.

Just for your information. Pumping the accelerator will not load the engine with fuel (like pumping a carburetor with an accelerator pump). In fact if you hold the pedal wide open, the PCM cuts back the fuel injection for what's called "flood mode". To allow more air and less fuel to start up a flooded engine.

well i did filter tonight it didnt seem to bad it looked pretty clean i could blow thru it pretty easy
but i still have my fingers crossed ,didnt drive yet half way into a plug change funny i might need my wife to help with the passenger side my arms are to big ,next step will be the gauge to see what type of presure it has
gonna look into a cheap one becaus car was running fine when i put it in garage yesterday so i might nave to keep in car for the next time it happens
if all else fails i will have to send to guy that fixes cars i cant get ,i was a mechanic for 12 yrs but gave it up about 11 yrs ago so my diagnostic skills have gotten weak so forgive me if i ask stupid questions now and then

Actually, that sounds a lot like a regulator problem to me. Definately get a fuel pressure gauge on it and see if it holds pressure after you turn the key off. Then pull the vacuum hose off of the regulator on the back side of the manifold and see if it's wet. If there is fuel there, you need a new regulator...

not trying to dig up an old post ,just wanted to post some results and mayby get some advise on parts just finished working on car heres what i did and found
both battery cables a little loose
fuel regulator wasnt wet but looked like it had been in the past so i changed it
did the fuel filter
spark plugs (ouch)
thermostat (was running a little hot)
cleaned out throttle body and iac
pcv ,and replaced a few cracked rubber lines
so now car is running fine and have my fingers but we all know that dont meen much i havent put a gage on it due to the fact i dont have one yet but have it set up when it happens again my buddy that owns garage will check pfuel pressure and scan it for codes i just dont have time or know how i'm thinking i might be replacing fuel pump in future just a guess,so whats a good aftermarket pump
this car is stock and will stay that way for some time would i be best off using ac delco?
and as far as the opti goes would a/c delco be a good choise for a stock engine with no mod plans in the future ?
