Re: stall and gears????

3.73s should be fine and go with a 2800 stall in a QUALITY 9.5" TC. I can not stress the quality 9.5" enough. I had a 2600 9.5" that came from Level 10 best I could find was Art Carr built it(they claimed it based on serial numberrs I sent them), it drove like crap and built heat badly. When I blew the tranny I then went to a 2800 Edge 9.5" drivability is awesome heat is not a problem at all, could not be happier. Oh and sofar most of the time I have had the Edge in it was with 2.93s which should have made drivability bad with that high a stall but that was never my experiance, I now have 3.42s but my usage of my Caprice is different than the average f-body drivers.

I drive my 94 with 3.73s and 2800 stall everyday, I have put 15k on it now with the stall in (gears have been in for years) and its no problem. I also have many suspension mods so I don,t think you will have any problems, in fact I bet you will want to drive the car more than you do now.

Re: stall and gears????

if you dont drive it very often, put a 3200-3600 in. i have a 2500 stall with 3.73's, and its the worst mistake i ever made. i was worried about driveability, and all i want now is a bigger stall. w/ the 3.73's at 70mph youll be at 2500 rpms.

had that exact set up 373's w/ a 2600 stall, that stall is way mild and I regret going so low...I wouldnt go any lower then a 3000....that stall and gears will be a night and day differance

Re: stall and gears????

I just drove my car on saturday for the first time since the 3.73's and 3400 install. All I can say is That sh*t is crazy!

No, there is no skin left on my knuckles, but it was worth every agonizing tear. The nittos only have about 250 miles on them, so there pretty fresh....but traction is again a problem anywhere under 40 on the street. And I haven't tried spraying on it yet....still breakin it in.

If your going to do it yourself make sure you have a friend or two to help you...I had a friend to help with the teardown, but I put it all back together myself...

I drive the car about 500-1000 miles per summer so the 3400 is real nice, but I think 2800-3000 would be nice and tame for a daily driver for the summer.

2800 is about the lowest I have heard of for a quality 9.5", many guys try going with a cheap 24-2500 and think stall is bad afterwards or at least want more like you do, get a higher stall in a quality piece and you will be happy, and yes even over 3K is fine with the good TCs. Another bonus to the 9.5" units is huge rotating weight savings.

Thunder racing(supporting advertiser) has a power package for our cars(which I bought)....I believe #3. It comes with a vigi of your choice, transcooler(24,000gvw) and a transgo shift kit. I would highly recommend both cooler and transgo with high stall.....
