Just bought a '96 M6 with low miles...what now?

Hey guys,

Just bought a '96 Z28 M6 with 49,7XX miles on it. I am right now selling my '93 Z28, hoping to get about $3000 for it but I was wondering what I should do to my car right now mod wise? It is completely stock all the way down to the intake. I have $750 right now and then I will have that money I will be getting when I sell my other car...what should i get? I want to have a DD that is a mid-low 12 second car...is it possible with roughly $4000?

I was hoping to get the basics of headers, exhaust and intake first within' the next two weeks. I was leaning towards Pacesetter LT's because of their ground clearance but i'm not sure yet...I just want some opinions on what to get as well as what other stuff I would have to buy so that my car wouldn't be throwing codes (like get O2 sims). Also some places to buy this stuff at good prices would be good too...that seems to be one of the problems I am having.

Thanks,

~Kevin

If you can swing a cutout,LT headers, and homemade CAI...do it...its possible w/ that $...w/ a good driver that should get you deepin the 13's possible high 12's...w/ 4k you can run a hella lot faster then 12's

CAI, Headers, and full exhaust would be a great start. I really like my Pacesetter LTs, after most the summer the coating still looks great! With the remaining money you should be able to pick up a real nice set of heads, a custom cam ground to your heads specs, and dyno tunned. I would think low 12s would be quite easy. Keep in mind you will have to upgrade suspension, tires, clutch, and possibly rearend in the future.

Where would be a good place to buy the headers, exhaust and intake?
Also what else would I need, O2 simms and what else?

If it is a 96' you shouldn't need o2 sims, 97 is when they switched to obdII and added the after cat o2's, i would also recomend the pacesetter lt's, they are all over the place, check ebay or do a search.

He is wrong...you will need O2 simulators! OBDII started in late late '95 so some '95 cars and 96 and so on are OBDII and have O2 sensors after the cat!

for 4k, ?? Logtubes, le2 or le3, intake and cutout and a good tune. That should be low 12s i would say.

A good daily driver would be an LE1 setup with all the supporting mods. E-mail Lloyd @ nighttrain66@msn.com for more info, or search the forums here. Lloyd is popular on the boards, and you can't get more bang for the buck.

As far as the rear o2's. 96+ and some 95's are OBD-II. If you get a cam and heads, you will want a computer tune, and they can delete the rear o2s out of the tune anyway so don't waste your money on them.

Yeah, I know for sure that '96 is OBD-II. Thanks guys for the tips...I will probably go with an LE setup...just gotta sell my other car first. K&N FIPK is already on the way.

Thanks again,
~Kevin
