Exclamation which stall converter? ~2800

i need a new converter for my rebuilt tranny. i have searched and researched and decided to go with a stall speed of around 2800 (give or take 200 rpm's) for my needs. i don't have the money or need a vig converter. i was thinking of a midwest or a yank/slp. i want to spend as little as possible but still get a DECENT converter. please don't tell me to save my money and get a vig, cause i would if i could afford it, but a cheaper converter will work fine for me right now. i would like to get the most for my money. please enlighten me with your thoughts, ideas?

thanks

thomas

Twells- IMO, I would go with a 3000. The general rule is to go one stall higher than what you think you can handle. I am currently running a TCI 3500. I have not had a chance to make it to the track though, but hope to in the next couple of weeks. We sell TCI converters and have had a lot of success with them. Right now, we are running a special on them, 10% off. LT1 converters are $469.99. With the discount it's $423(+shipping). Shipping is going to run right at $25.

TreyZ28- Your are right. My Yank 3200 just went out on me and it took the front pump as well as the valve body with it. Basically everything but my clutches was torn up in the tranny.

I have a Midwest 3000. No problems yet, great customer service same warranty as the big guys. 2 free restalls also.

Don't have any great times with the TC yet because my rearend is out but soon enough I hope to get a replacement and let loose with the converter.

I thought the slp was a yank. I could be wrong.

I have been hearing good things about the midwest converter.

Vig or Yank!!! I use a vig3200($6xx.xx) have been since the tranny wars of 2000 . I love it, tad loose though. It was the best mod when car was a bolton project. Even better with the blower .

Go with A.C.T. thats what I am going with. Talk to dana at Probuilt Auto's, He is a god at the www.thirdgen.org board, very knowledgable and friendly guy. I have talked to him several times each time for about 20 minutes. The A.C.T. is a 9.5 convertor, about 200 dollars or more cheaper than a yank/vig and still runs great. IMO, if you want your auto car to haul ***, dont skimp on the convertor. Yes, TCI, B&M products last, but do they drop .5-.8 off a ET like the good 9.5 convertors do?

www.pro-built.net

hope this helps.

which stall?

I have the Midwest 2800 stall. 2.5 str.Cost me 489.00 shipped to my door. It is what they call a 10 inch hybrid. 10 inch converter in a 12 inch shell.Looks like a spaceship! Have not had any problems. Locks up fine(about 48mph). Hits good off the line(had to go to Nittos) couldnt keep the car straight when I hammered it!I will be getting a free cleaning and restall since my tranny is about gone and I will be putting another one in.By the way it actually stalls at 3000,when I flash it. Good customer service too with John at hpa. good Luck, it is my best mod to date. I also had a 24,000 b+m tranny cooler and 1le mount installed at the same time. But you may want to get your tranny rebuilt before puttting all this stuff in. I should have!Would have saved me some bucks in the long run.Stock trannys(mine is a 700r4 cannot handle much).Pickerman Also a Transgo kit helped to fry my clutches, and burned my band.

Thomas,

I believe that cam you have is pretty big. Sounds badass too. I would recommend at least a 3000, and go with a midwest over a slp or TCI. Have to meet up sometime. See ya on mogmhp.
