SS Owners, Scam Air Fix

Has anyone modded the intake plenum where it connects to the rubber thingy which connects the plenum to the MAF?

It seems that the end of the plenum really has no lip to speak of that provides a good seal between it and the rubber connector.

I was thinking of maybe doing some fiberglass work or gluing a short piece of PVC or something to make a lip.

This thing is basically a piece of crap, but I would prefer to keep it rather than go to an A-Market CAI.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I just went with aftermarket CAI. I felt a small gain in performance over the SS box.

Judging from the responses, no SS owners see a problem with the Scam Air plenum where it connects to the MAF? Guess mine is unusual.

The majority of SS owners I know ditch the factory SS intake and go with the K&N FIPK or similar... that may be the reason for the lack of replies... not many still have the stock air box installed

Bubba, I still have the oem SS intake on, but I can't say I have noticed a problem with the connection you describe. I can't say the engineering on the whole matter is great but it hasn't presented any problems for me.

Thanks guys. Hey if anyone out there is not using their Scam Air and wants to donate it to me or for very little cash, I will perform some experiements with it for the greater good of humanity. I already have 2 extra lids for the boxes. I am thinking of fabricating a better Scam air box and would offer it at a very reasonable cost should I be successful.

Brent i am buying an aftermarket SS hood and wanted to cut the hole out for the scoop on it so that way i could get some air flow through the underhood area. Since you dont' have a airbox on anymore what are you doing about water coming throught the hood or did you just block it off? I was thinking about cutting the hole out then making a plug to stick in the hole so no water gets in and goes on the motor or opti. What are you using?

Bubba,I dont quite get what you said. But if you are talking the seal around the filter when the hood is closed,I have tried to improve the seal by adding more rubber to it.I plan on try some other things as well in the future.

Joe: I'm talking about where the box plenum hooks to the MAF. There is a rubber connector between the plenum and the MAF. The side that connects to the MAF is OK, but the part that connects to the plenum (outlet of the BOX) is iffy since there is hardly any lip on the plenum where you can secure the rubber connector.

I ALSO glued some rubber pieces to the front of the lid so that when the hood closes less under-the-hood air enters the system.

Got the rubber from SLP when I was under warranty. Told them that they had the seal glued on crooked and it didn't match the lid.

I just adjusted the seal and cut up the piece they sent me for use on the front of the lid.

Nothing If you think about it, the water goes the same path as it would if you had the factory air box. The factory air box is only for AIR and only air goes into your engine... no water. So, the water that does get in there currently takes the same path as it would even if I still had the stock air box on there.

ok thanks brent i figured the air box might of had some sort of drain in it so the water that came through the hole would drain out of the airbox and on to the ground. I just figured in a good rain you might be able to get a lot of water in there and kill the good old dependable opti.
