Spun Rod Bearing?

Fror the last month so with the car in Park I can hear a slight knocking that sounds like a bottom end knock from the LT1--165k miles btw

So the other day I was under WOT and I heard a high pitched screeeeam from the engine bay....no other sounds....

Now when I floor it to above 4k and let off I hear....noises...from the engine. But I havent noticed any loss of power or oil pressure...

I can still hear the knocking, and it might be louder, and it might not be.

I've spun bearings in carbed small blocks before and it is a lot louder than this.
But, I still think that might be it.

crap, that really blows.

If it was me, I'd bring it into a shop to diagnose it if you aren't 100% sure what it is, and stop driving it.

I would stop driving it as well. You can easily make things worse just like me. Check the sig.

I thought I had the same problem, but it turned out to be a cracked flexplate. But it wouldn't make the noise when my converter was engaged, only at idle, or when I let off the gas.

Thanks guys..I will definitely check the flexplate, as this sounds like a possibility. To the mechanic!

Re: Spun Rod Bearing?

check your belt tensioner because at idle mine would make a noise and at wot on shifts it would screach. how many miles on the tensioner? if its stock i would look into that first before anything. im on my 3rd one in 3 years and i change the belt as well.

Re: Spun Rod Bearing?

The screaming sound is scary. Cut open the oil filter and check it for metal and drain the oil and put a baby diaper or fine cheesecloth over the bucket and strain it for metal.
Don't drive it until ya find it.

Re: Spun Rod Bearing?

Get an automotive stethescope and put it on the block and see if you can hear the knocking inside the block. That will give you a better idea if you would like to do a little diagnosing yourself. That tool is only like 15 bucks from autozone.
