hmmm..ok looked at them both but im kinda at a loss here...i already removed my cam so all that is left is a hole and the crank sprocket thing.....there is a mark on the crank sprocket but since i removed the cam there is no sprocket on that...so how do i tell when it is on top dead center...do i just turn the crank sprocket until the dot is facing up??

Yes, you mount the sprocket to the cam and use the dot as the reference mark to line it up with the dot on the crank gear.

You only need to loosen the cam sprocket to loosen the chain and re-orient it with the cam to line up the dots and then get the chain back on.

Put the crank bolt back in the snout, use a socket and breaker bar to rotate the crank.
