Splayed main caps, how necessary?

Hey everyone,

I am in the process of building a forged 383, and looking into the machine shop prices, and adding the splayed main caps will nearly double the price. For a N/A 383, are the splayed mains really needed? What if a 150 shot of N20 would be added later? The highest RPM the motor will see is 6800-7000.

Thanks,
Chris

They say that a 2 bolt with arp studs is good to 500 hp. If you are planning on spinning the thing to 7k, splayed caps would be a good idea imho.
