Just went to the track..How do I get better Top End??*TIMES INSIDE*

Well I went to the track today, and when I launch the car, it just takes off like a bat outa hell. But then, I feel my top end gettin weak. So how do us LT1'ers get some better top end out of our cars. Time Below

R/T: .473
60: 2.038
330: 5.593
1/8: 8.544
MPH: 83.28
1000: 11.102
1/4: 13.255
MPH: 104.91

I think I layed down some deecnt numbers for using street tires. Thanks guys.

The simple answer is you need more cam. Our cars will make no more than 350 or so RWHP with a stock cam and no more than 370 or so with stock heads. Even these numbers are very hard to reach.

P.S. Nice to see someone who took care of the basics first. Gotta love the suspension upgrades before the internal engine work.

350 on the stock cam and heads? I would like to see that! People are barely hitting that with a big cam and stock heads.

For more power, you could do ported heads, even a 383 rotating assembly. But it gets very expensive very quickly.

What is your opinion on nitrous? You can go alot faster for not a lot of money.

I can't really do anything about the cam, I just put it in in the begining of the year. But for the N20, I am a little iffy about that, I don't know how much would blow up my engine and I am trying to make my car go as fast as possible NA. So what can I do NA with my car to give it a little bit more? THanks again

Your choices are pretty much ported heads and/or a bigger cam, but it sounds like you don't want to take the engine apart again, and in that case there isn't much you can do.

Well heads I can do, I just don't know who I should go to, to get them done. Also, I have heard mixed feelings about putting heads on a hot cammed car. Some have said that I would notice little to no gains, others have said I would notice some decent gains. So honastly I don't know really what to do. Any input from you guys would be awsome. Thanks.

If you are willing to take your heads out, might as well throw in a matching cam at the same time People always say good things about Bauer Racing Engines', Lloyd Elliott's, and Advanced Induction's head/cam combos. Calling those guys up and talking to them might be a good start. Also, I would recommend against doing just the heads, I feel you should do it once, and do it right. JMHO.

I think you misread my post. I was saying with stock cam and ported heads no more than 350, and with stock heads and aftermarket cam no more than 370.

Simply put, you need more HP for better mph in the 1/4 mile, or you need to reduce weight. I vote for heads, as that's about the only thing you have left except for a bigger cam. You have an auto, with a stall, so your traps won't be super high anyways. Where you gain the advantage is with your launch, since you have a stall and gears. You should be at 1.9 60' times.

The problem with a bigger cam is less daily drivability. The Hotcam is a great cam for stock heads.

105 mph is pretty good I think for the Hotcam and an auto. That's like 107 with an M6

Anybody know how I can get a hold of Lloyd Elliott? I think I may have to invest into his heads over the winter.

i agree with this dude. dont just go get your heads done w/o matching it w/ a really good cam. you will be dissapointed after spending all that money & knowing your car could have alot more potential.

Sell your cam on this site and get a new one. Alot of people (i hear) that buy the HotCam aren't really happy with it and end up swapping it out anyway.

Thread hijack: .

I plan on the Hotcam as well. I know it isnt the biggest cam around, but how much would porting heads actually do for a hotcam? what is the most, and also the most likely amount of HP improvement likely with a port job?

Re: Just went to the track..How do I get better Top End??

I have the HOTCAM i like it it gives good power all around, I did send my heads out and intake match as well, before the heads and cam, i ran Mid 13's Now w/ heads, cam and good tune and true duals i pull consistant 12.20's w/ my setup on a set of slicks but im only pulling 1.8 60' due to my bad clutch. I just instaled a SPEC III in my car and WOW does that thing grab, im sure now with new clutch i wouldnt be surprised when i go to trac to pull a 12.00 flat or 11.90's. If you want good drivability id go w/ HOTCAM or CC305 either one of those combos i feel w/ a good head/intake job will put you into low 12's.
