Spittin 'n Sputter'n

I need some remote analytical support: (a.k.a. Frist/Schiavo)

I had fired up the car and without a long warm up, I got on the freeway. Stupidly, I accelerated briskly and as the car got up in RPM, it started to miss/spit/cough real bad. I nursed it back home and now it is broke. I can start it, but can't keep it running.

I assumed it was the opti (#4) and did not perform much additional analysis and installed a deltec.

Unfortunately, that was NOT the problem. I am now at the crux of believing I may have a broken valve spring (had that problem before too!).

Your "Senate Majority Leader" analysis is requested....(although I am a mutton-head, I am not brain-dead).

Pull the valve covers and look.I would also check your fuel pressure. If it isnt those...check the coil, wires ICM.

Re: Spittin 'n Sputter'n

It could still very well be your opti. The delteq setup still requires the signals from your opti to tell the coils when to fire. If you had a bad opti b4 the installation it still will not run right. Delteq setup just removes the high voltage side of the optispark. A functioning optispark is still neccessary for the delteq to run correctly. Sounds like you need to get yourself a "back half" of the opti, you dont need the whole distributor. You can of course buy the whole distributor then sell the cap and rotor though. I bought a reman from a local parts store and it was just the back half for like $150.
