Spirolocks

Uncle! Uncle! my fingers are throbbing!
I tried a search with little results except for a reference to stabbing your thumb. I can relate.

I actually have 4 pistons/rods done already. When I got the first one in finally I felt like I just solved a Rubecks Cube. Once its well inside the pin bore I am using a small flathead screwdriver to help slide them in all the way to the groove.

My question is about the instructions. It says to pull apart about 3/8" - 1/2" or so but if thats all you do they immediately snap back tight. OR, are you suppossed to pull them apart further than that so when you let got they will stay 3/8" - 1/2" apart?

Any suggestions from somebody who has done this a little more often?

Re: Spirolocks

I pull them apart more than that. The screwdriver is your friend, but be carefull because it can nic a pin bore.

Yes, spread them apart more so that they stay about 1/2" apart. They are a real pain, but once you get the hang of it, it goes pretty quick. I've done dozens of them and it does suck at the beginning.

Good luck!

Re: Spirolocks

Thanks for the quick replys I figured you had to pull them apart alittle more.
I'll finish the rest today then. And I forgot to mention these are for 6.0 rods so the pin is way up into the oil ring land where if it was not, I bet it would be alot easier. They definitely do not just spiral in like the instructions say. What fun!
