Timing Advance

Does anyone run mechanical advance on their LT1s or is it all controlled in the computer anymore?

Re: Timing Advance

As long as you are running an opti... it is all in the computer. If you run a distributor from the cam, you could do a manual advance... but its all in the computer stock.

Re: Timing Advance

So even when I swap out the opti for an MSD unit, it will still be run by the computer. I can deal with that.

Re: Timing Advance

That's not a whole opti you realize right? Just a cap and rotor.

The complete MSD replacement opti has not been released, but it would not make a difference how it is done, all timing advance is done via PCM.

You *can* advance your cam to crankshaft timing, but the only people who do that in our cases are people trying to get their cam to degree properly.

Will it resove the issues people have been having with the non-vented opti?
Otherwise, I'm not going to bother to install it.

That's a release guesstimate, they have no real idea when it will be out.

Re: Timing Advance

That would explain the $350 price difference.
My bad for not reading. Luckily Jegs has a very liberal return policy.
