SpeedPro Powerforged Pistons....AWESOME!
There is a lot of competition at both the high and low end of the piston market. Both JE and SP are therefore probably priced "fairly" due to the beauties of a "free market". Ditto for those TRW's Steve! The trick is to know what you need and can afford and get the best product for your needs within your price range.
Jim is building a high buck motor. Mr. N2O is not. Both seem to have chosen the right pistons for their combos, so kudos to them both, But N2O, don't assume you got the same quality for a lot less money. That seldom happens. Will they be just as good for your use? I think so, so you made a wise purchase.
I have used cheaper, heavy pistons when appropriate and more expensive, lighter pistons when I needed them. But FWIW, I doubt the SP pistons use the same alloy as JE, Ross, etc. So, there is more to it than weight. The quality of the wrist pin is also a big issue on a high hp motor. A setup with a big nitrous shot is gonna be tough on the pins, even withut high revs. One thing I like about the "custom": route is that you can save weight where needed and add strength where you need that. I was able to order an extra heavy duty set of wrist pins to go with the pistons.
The right choice is always the cheapest part that will do the job you have intended for it, IMHO.

Ok,Ok....I give up, lol. Im calling truce and I am getting tag teamed here.
to JE, ROSS, WISECO, TRICK FLOW?? and TRW(wait, isnt that speedpro???)!
Anyhow, My original post was NEVER intended to shoot down the names of the top brand pistons. Its was only to put in a few good words for the pistons I received. If you noice..I even said that ifyou have the money to spend on it, then buy the better pistons(in my second post I think). I dont doubt it is lighter and uses slightly better metal(hell for the price I wouldnt expect any less). But nobody has even stated yet what type of metal they use those pistons...so who knows?!?! All I had intentions of doing was puttin in some good words for the serch engine to pick up on for anyone else ever considering speed pro powerforged pistons. Sorry I offended all of you expensive piston guys.
Dont forget If you guys really want to compare apples to apples...that there is a LW Race version of the SpeedPro Powerforged pistons available. Instead of the OEM replacements like most speedpro buyers purchase. I know they still probably still are not as light as the above methioned names...but its would be a closer comaprison(for weight at least)
FWIW...my speedpro come in 4.02875 size inteneded for a 4.030 overbore with .00025 clearance. Not bad IMO! Cant get much tighter than that..epsically with forged pistons.
End Game! Everyone Enjoy the pistons you are running!
