To check your coil wire, get a multimeter (ohmeter) and stick each test lead on each end of the connector. The resistance should be very low - under 50-100 ohms. If it is very high, or you cannot get a reading, you may have a bad coil wire. You can try this with each plug wire as well, figure at least 50 ohms per foot of resistance.
