Question Changing Transmission Fluid.......

this might be a stupid question and I have searched but couldnt find anything good. but, when changing the transmissing fluid on an A4 is there also a filter that needs to be changed? if so, can i just get one at a local parts store?

Changing the tranny fluid in your driveway is a pain b/c you will get fluid everywhere. Be sure to have a large drain pan.

Yes you will need a filter and gasket which you can buy at any parts store but I recommend Napa gaskets which are made of rubber instead of cork.

Loosen the all of the bolts and remove the back bolts on the pan. Let as much fluid drain as possible and then just pull the pan off and dump the rest of the fluid. Pull of the filter and replace. Install reverse of removal. Pour fluid in through dipstick tube. Dropping the pan should only require you to add 2-4 quarts of fluid.

drop the pan, drain the fluid, change the filter and gasket

bolt it up and feed the fluid thru the dipstick tube ( the transmission one, not the oil one )

piece of cake, very messy though
