Angry Spark plug changing help.

Started changing plugs and wires on my son's 1995 Z-28,finished drivers side but now started on the dreaded passenger.Read on the net to remove plugs from top but my arms aren't very big but I can't get in.Have removed alternator but that didn't help. Will I have to remove y-pipe and or starter which would help for back plugs?Car has A/C and stock manifolds.Any hints would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Some of the plugs can be removed easier from under the car

Re: Spark plug changing help.

Just however u can get them out. Ive changed mine twice. The first time was very difficult and i have headers (I hear stock manifolds are a pain!) The second time i just unhooked the y pipe and the headers made it easier but still wasnt a cakewalk by any means! But on the passengers side i think i came from the top and just slipped a plug socket on it and used a ratcheting wrench on the end to change them. I think that is bout the best combination for all the plugs but having stock manifolds may hender that. But that is just my 2 cents!! Good luck!!

Its ben a while since i did plugs with stock manifolds but the way i do mine is put a towel on my intake manifold and Kneel on it. Allowing my wrists to bend the right way to get in there. I tighten the plugs as much as i can with a thumb wheel or fingers then get my ratchet on my socket after the socket is allready on the plug. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Yea u always want to hand tighten first since these are aluminum heads. Very easy to strip which u probably already know that! I crossthreaded the #1 plug on mine the first time i changed mine.

Re: Spark plug changing help.

SLP has a short socket designed to assist on removing spark plugs. You have to use the socket and a wrench. This helps out to give you more room to work. It still is tight, but it helped me on my 97 and buddies 95. Rachet wrench works excellent. GOOD LUCK !!!!

Re: Spark plug changing help.

Me and one of my buddies did mine on my car without the special socket. All it took was a variety of extensions and a swivel. We broke most of the old ones coming out, but the new ones went in fine and we didn't have to take anything off.
