Spark issues after opti replacement

Hey all,

Replaced the opti because I was getting high rpm issues only. normal driving the car was fine.

Anyway, replaced the rotating assy but not the distributor (nor the rotating thing that sends the spark to the distributor - forgot what it is called).

Found #2 was not firing by checking exhaust temps. Pulled plug and turned over engine and saw a consistent spark (motor not running). Also tried putting the plug in the boot while engine was running and got shocked pretty good so there must be spark while it is running...unless I am getting arcing.

OK, so I check voltage to injectors. Yes I have voltage.

Next I switch injectors but still only problems out of #2. No change after switching.

WTF am I missing?

Ben

Glad you figured it out, because I'm still trying to figure out what you actually replaced???????

Autozone sells the Optispark Distributor as 2 separate components. The distributor (that the plugs wires go into) and the rotating assembly that comprises the bearing and optical encoder side of things.

The two pieces together = distributor. One part is the base (back 1/2 with bearing, drive mechanism and optical module), the other part is the cap & rotor (front 1/2 where "that the plug wires go into").
