Sorry, Another opti Question
Sorry, Another opti Question
Here is what I am planning. I am going to run a new MSD VENTED opti. good for years 95-97. What timing chain cover do I need. 94-95, or 96-97? Also what other parts do I need for the conversion. Sorry again, one more ?. What about the extra sensor in the vented opti. I am installing this into a 93 Z so can I just leave it unplugged.
THanks

Re: Sorry, Another opti Question
You're a bit confused. The MSD unit is just a cap and rotor. It is not a complete Opti, and using it will not give you a true "vented Opti", just a nipple on the cap for a single "vent" line - unlike the original vented Opti which also has a vacuum nipple on the body (back 1/2) of the Opti. You can put that cap on any Opti, with any timing cover. What "extra sensor" comes with the vented Opti cover? There is no sensor in the cap... just the nipple for the vent hose. There is a place for a crank position sensor in the 96/97 timing covers. But even if you bought a complete vented Opti, and all the required conversion parts, you would use the unique 95 timing cover, which does not have the hole for the CKP.
Re: Sorry, Another opti Question
You can also just buy a non-vented MSD cap like yours already has. (that is, when MSD decides to actually ship their new opti cap and rotor kits to the market)
If you want to know about opti conversions, go here.
