some quick questions

ok i got my engine out and have torn just about everything down and now i have a couple of questions before i finish cleaning it up and reassembling it.

1. should the dots on the cam and crank sprockets be pointed at each other in order to set at TDC? i thought they should and i thought i had the motor at TDC but the dots were no where near each other so im thinking i may have put it 180 out.

2. how do i get the distributor cap off? it looks like you need a special socket, or am i just stupid?

3. i thought the drive shaft for the distributor was keyed so it only went back in one way, can someone confirm this?

4. should i put the timing cover back on before i put the oil pan on? it looked that way with that seal that is at the bottom of the cover.

i think that is it for now. if i think of something else i will be sure to come back and bug you guys. and the help is always appreciated.

1. The dots will be together at #6 TDC and both at 12 o'clock at #1 TDC. Either is correct. http://shbox.com/1/cam_timing_ani.gif

2. https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=616710

3. You have a 1994? http://shbox.com/1/93-94_opti.jpg

4. The timing cover always goes on before the oil pan, since the pan seals to the bottom of the cover.
