Some confusion about valve springs

I got the dual springs from crane p/n: 99893 to install with my crane 227 cam and comp pro mag 1.6 rr's and ls7 lifters...
Crane advertises an install hieght of 1.85-1.875 and i was just going to shoot for 1.86...
Now, will i be safe installing these at 1.86 or do you HAVE to get the pressure test performed on each spring?
Are the springs they sell not up to thier specifications or is this test performed for added security?
The confusion on my part is that i am thinking that you only NEED to perform the pressure test when you are changing the install height of a specific spring...
Someone please put me on the path of the straight and narrow...

If the cam calls for a particular seat pressure and the springs meet or exceed those specs, just install the springs at that height and call it good. Those springs are good for .640 lift and your cam is only 510/552. JMHO

Ditto, Bubba's reply. If you wanted to get obsessive about it, you could check each spring, but doing that is not required to get a fairly accruate install. Be sure to get each cylinder's pair of spring's heights as close to each other as possible. Those are good springs and that is a good cam.

If you are running stock valves you'll never see a 1.86" installed height.

Just get the kit Crane 10308-1. It contains the 99893 springs along with retainers, keepers, etc. Why would you have to change heads? Summit usually has a good price on this kit. JMHO

oh, i already got the kit but if i can't get the correct install height i'll be screwed right... can i install these at 1.78? thats going to take my spring down to 1.228 (between 380 and 400#) and i thought that would be to much pressure.... but if not then HELL YEA i'll use them!

maybe i'm missing something-hummmmmmm

Well, you need to install the springs at TDC (valve on the seat)---also at TDC the valve should not drop far enough to disappear into the cyl. Obviously, the spring pressures with the valve on the seat (closed) are going to be consierably less than when they are open (compressed). Not going to hurt to have more than the 120 on the seat, if that is what you come up with. The numbers you are showing are obviously when the valve is open.

Coil bind with that spring is 1.180 so you will have the necessary .60 extra space even if you wound up installing them at 1.78 (1.78-1.180=.60).

You should be getting some shims along with your kit in case you need them to get the required installed heights/pressures. JMHO

update- i started installing springs and found that if i use just the shim, retainer and locks in the 10308-1 kit from crane that i end up with an install height of 1.862 (within cranes specs) which is right where i wanted to be... I heard some people using other seats and i had some seats from comp but they put me at an install height of 1.818...

now my main concern are my valve seals... i put lt4 valve seals on about 1800 miles ago and i was wondering if it would be safe just to reuse them?
