how much power is too much for hydraulic lifters? I'm thinking about going solid roller on my 355 buildup.

 

Its not really the power level , but the spring pressure and RPMs.

If youre running 400 plus pounds of spring pressure (open) then the Hyd rollers may not like it much.

 

what is the downside of using solid rollers? anything special needed to use them? I'm thinking about getting the LE3 package

 

uumm.... solid roller lifters need solid roller cams.

Just get comp-r lifters. They can handle the LE3 package.

 

Solid rollers require essentially a complete valve train change, from the cam to the springs. Then you will be faced with periodic (~6,000 miles) lashing of the valves. The noise from the solid rollers will interfere with your knock sensor to the extent that it becomes useless. Some solid roller lifters do not lubricate well it low RPM. Probably the only reason you would want to think about them is if you plan to run the engine over 7,000rpm or you are getting up in the range of 250deg durations and 0.600+" lift.

 

ok cool....i will just stick with the comp r lifters. Anything special needed with them or are they just direct replacement?
