Question So why doesn't my cruise control work?

I just recently tried to use my cruise control while on a long trip, and I have actually never checked it before, but it doesn't work. I tried every combination of things to try, switching on & off, holding the button on the tip for long time, etc., etc. nothin....
What you guys think?

Hmm i'm not very familiar with cruise control but maybe it's the cable connected to the throttle body. Check to see if it's on there properly. Just a guess but it may help.

When I first bought my 94 I thought my cruise never worked. But really it was all how you turned it on. For mine to work, whenever im not using it i keep in to the far left (off) and only when I use it I turn it to the middle (on) then set it at the speed im going. But if I goto speed up or slow down and it automatically turns off I have to turn the cruise off again, then turn it back on and set it for it to work. If I tried to set it again without turning it off first it wouldn't work. Get what I'am trying to say Give that a shot.

Behind the brake and clutch pedal, there's a switch that disengages the cruise whenever the brake or clutch pedal is pressed. Perhaps one of those switches could be bad.

Good call, I would check that switch. See if you can bypass it. Most of the time cruise controls go bad is because of the switch on turn signal though. I think Auto Zone or Advanced Auto sells a turn signal/cruise control assembly for GM cars. The one on the F-body is very common for GM cars/trucks. If it is cruise module that is bad, it can be very expensive to replace. I have a used module I could sell you for a good price. It came off my '93 Z28. I thought mine was bad so I went to a junk yard and got one. I also took the switch assembly. My problem ended up being the switch. BTW, '93-'95 (maybe even higher years) cruise control modules are the same.

Thumbs up

Thanks fellas,
damn looks like I'm definately not the only one havin a problem here. And nothing looks broken, it all looks & seems fine; except that it just doesn't engage. I'll keep trying a few different things & maybe I'll get lucky. I know this isn't a major thing, but damn, it's a lot easier than trying to keep & maintain a speed goin up & down hills for 6 hours.

I got a pretty good foot cramp that I'd rather not get again - oh well.

If I were you, I would look the "car parts for sale" section of this board for someone parting out a car. Buy their turnsignal/cruise assembly for a few dollars. Or go to Autozone buy one and if it doesn't fix it, take it back saying it was the wrong part. When I had my problem, the cruise would work but not the Resume part of the cruise.

Just had a thought.........

I know on some cars the cruise will not work if the brake lights are not working or if the 3rd brake light does not work. Don't know if this is true for the F-body but worth a look.

Cool

I would do the cheap stuff first.I would remove the black cover(on mine anyway=93),where the throttle body is,that covers the gas and cruise cables, and make sure the cruise cable didn't brake off.On mine it's 2 small screws(cover). If somebody already mentioned this, sorry,it's beer o'clock here.My02

This will sound dumb but my cruise control quit working when a brake light bulb in the wing burned out. A new bulb fixed it.
