So is it my vavle seals, or piston rings? Or both?

My car has done this for a while but its getting worse now. It really seems to be bad when its colder outside...below 40 degrees. It has about 104,500 miles on the engine now and as far as I know, the valve seals are the original. Basically, when I first start the car, it will puff a little bit of smoke, hardly noticealbe. But if I rev it at all it will smoke quite a bit. Once warmed up I can rev it all I want and it'll hardly smoke at all, but when I really get on the gas and bring the rpms above the 4500-5000 mark, theres enough smoke to see it in my rear view. So what do you guys think?

Valve seals are a definite, especially since you see a puff of smoke at startup, oil leaking past valve stems collecting on valves/cylinders gets sucked the rest of the way in and burned when you start the car. I once had a auto shop teacher tell me that he'd never seen an sbc with over 75k that didn't have shot valve seals. Mine has 74k and doesn't smoke. Your rings could be worn too. you could always do a compression and leakdown test to find out for sure.

My car would make blue smoke for a bit when I started it up.
It also put out some light smoke at WOT on the highway.
I had the valve seals replaced at 100,000 miles and now there's no smoke at startup and none at WOT even with the S/C.

Ok then the question is, what are good vavle seals to replace them with? Where to buy and how much? Thanks

This would be a great time for you to do the seals and valvesprings too. I got mine from Combination Motorsports. They were even open on Sunday! Shoebox's site has complete instructions on how to do them.

I think the springs are probably ok. I installed the hotcam kit about 20-25K miles ago and used the LT4 vavle springs that were included. Thanks for the suggestion of CMS.
