So.... got me in trouble advice?
So.... got me in trouble advice?
Ok so 400 miles on the new build mostly stock except valve train and cam LT1
Driving to work at about 60-65 mph, hear some clunks and a couple clanks and I felt like I was in a nascar race the way the motor let go, It was possibly the coolest thing I have ever destroyed but now I need to rebuild it again. I'm pretty sure I put a valve through the piston or something, but I will figure that out when I tear it a part.
I am looking at a 383 rotating kit and I found this one on Summit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SC...5BIE/?rtype=10
It's a complete forged kit with 2 valve relief pistons and what not. I will also get a le2 or le3 head job done with a custom cam grind. It won't see any boost just all motor. I'm using head gasket part number Mr. Gasket 5716.
I've built many stock motors but not one like this. I just need to know if this is a good direction or if I sould keep looking.
Budget doesn't matter It's gonna take me a year to get this all done anyway.
Thanks guys.

Maybe a slightly different approach is needed

Maybe you could consider one that is already put together on the bottom end?

These folks obviously don't want to sell many SB's

No price

Picture is obviously wrong

Re: So.... got me in trouble advice?
Would love to here what you fine when you tear it down. I have heard stories about missing tools left in the motor and do all sorts of fun things. Could be anything that caused your problem.
Re: So.... got me in trouble advice?
The Victor gaskets are the only part you listed I would use.
I would not use Golen and the last two links are low compression suggesting LT1 ignorance.
The VRE stuff I might consider the "racer series" with Compstar components. Price is maybe a little high for not listing main cap upgrades, but no core and good parts. The lesson you should have learned here is it is cheaper to do things right than to do things cheap.
You say budget doesn't matter but what I see is someone choosing everything on price. You spend a little more on quality parts and you will be further ahead.
