Snanmaster installation

I'm just going to mount it on top of the wheel to keep things simple for now. I know the white wire runs to the tan wire (bottom right corner of the diagnostics port). What wires underneath the dash can I connect my ground and positive to? I'd like to just splice black wire into a ground rather than taking out a screw and wrapping the wire around it. I picked up the plastic splice pieces and was hoping to keep it simple and run it right off of the diagnostic port wires but I'm not sure if i can or not. Shoebox's illustration shows a 95 which has many more wires (94's have 4 or maybe it was 5 ).

I have install instructions in my Scanmaster online writeup:

Its simpler to use a chassis ground, and there is no 12V power in the ALDL connector, so you can pick that up off the cig lighter wire.

Am I looking for a red wire running behind the cig lighter casing. I can hardly see at all behind there let alone track the wire running to the cig lighter. Sorry if it's a dumb question but I'm a visual learner in many instances I'll just ground out the negative wire on a screw, like you said.

I installed my ScanMaster 14 years ago..... I don't remember much about the cig lighter wire, other than the fact that's what I connected to. Sometimes an inspection mirror helps.

and I remember passing by them at autozone the last two times thinking to myself, "ya know I don't think I'd ever really need it". Go figure.. Will it be a single wire running off of the cig lighter or does it have a ground going off of it as well?

For those of you who are searching for an installation on 94's it's the orange wire going off of the cig. lighter. If you look closely you should see a orange clip hanging off of the bundle of wires (I believe this was designed to help remove the wires from underneath of that area) pull that out and carefully splice into the orange wire with your red wire from the scanmaster. This is how I did it anyways thanks to Fred's advice. I chose to run the ground right off of the center screw that supports the knee dash area. I have to pick up a 25amp fuse since I nicked the cig lighter with a flat head when I was trying to pry that section out of the console area. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting power to the cig lighter, put the cig. lighter back in and it wouldn't heat up/glow, so I checked the fuse and sure enough. I'm gonna pick up a fuse tomorrow and hopefully that will do it for me. Car's a mess!

I put my scanmaster in the vent above the radio. It fits in there pretty good. Plus it's in your site when you drive.
