A simple question

I really want to gut my cat, in hope of a louder and better sounding exhaust, but I am really worried about a loss of torque. Is this something I will notice? I never rev the motor over probably 3 grand, and probably wont. If the torque loss in not noticeable I may do it tommorow. What all is involved in getting it off? I figure I could just unbolt the y-pipe and then the back of the cat from the I-pipe and hammer away? Oh, what does it do for sound?

With my limited knowledge I highly doubt that you would notice a loss, if any at all. With your few mods you shouldnt notice it. Heck I never really FELT anything when I put catback and intake, but it showed up as probably a 30 or 40hp increase at the wheels based on 235 rwhp stock.

Just curious, if you dont rev it over 3grand why are you worried about losing power or noise, my car gets redlined at least 5 times a day.

I'm sure it does go over 3 grand, just not alot. I want to keep the feeling of the low-end torque that pushes me back into my seat. Regarding your cat-back, I felt a little SOTP improvement, but felt even more when I installed the CAI. I think It helped out alot. I just don't like reving my car way up, I'm not ***** to the wall like you guys are, yet. There's not track around here and nobody even worthwile to race. I don't know, I'm just worried about throwing a rod or something when the RPM's get up. I'm probably worried to much, but I want the motor to last a long time. And it's a 93 with only 34k on the clock. Pretty decent.

You'll gain a handful of horsepower, but you won't lose anything (except the possibility of passing emissions).
