It's a MSD cap and rotor with the back plate(the wiring harness goes throught it). Both the Orings between both the backplate and the base and the cap and the back plate. I looked on your site and found nothing mabey I missed it.
Your site is great !! I replaced my valve springs this weekend and used your advice and everything went well!
Thanks

I don't have anything about the MSD cap and rotor on my site.

O-rings are not meant to need additional sealant if they are used properly. Unless you've heard that people are having to use sealant, which I have not, then don't mess with it.

If I was going to silicone something on the opti, I'd run a bead of caulk around the outside of the seam on the assembled unit. Definitely wouldn't put anything on an o-ring.

But the MSD is designed as a sealed unit, isn't it? So it shouldn't need anything extra. Have you seen a post anywhere where somebody had leaks with an MSD opti?

Use ONLY a little LIGHT oil on "o" rings.

Never did believe in gluing an engine together, that's what the gasket is for.

Ive searched this form with the words "silicone opti" and found a few guys that swear by putting a little silicone on and that they can wash there engine bay and not have trouble with puddles. So I'm going to try a LITTLE on the outside edge of the opti.
Thanks

I would have to have the thing in my hand to take a look at it, to be able to make a judgement. I agree with the other posts saying that sealant is not really intended on an o-ring.

The new MSD Opti cap has a extra screw at the top to hold the cap together tighter but the other screws are still in the same place. I took a good look at it last night and compaired it ti the GM one and there is a better seal and a larger lip on the cap so it probally seals better. So I think I will leave it alone and see what it works like. If it leaks then I will put silicone around the edge.

Well I finally got the new opti cap and rotor on today, what a job to get everything clean and the new seal in the timing cover and the water pump and everything back on.
When you tighten the cap down it really seals well!! Oh the plug wires were also fun with the new headers(NOT!!!!)
