What exactly is the silencer?

Are you refering to the muffler or the donkey dong thing hanging from the intake? If you lost the thing hanging from the intake then you need to plug the hole otherwise you are letting in unfiltered air.

Yes it would because you would have a big vacuum leak. Either get the LT4 one since it doesn't have a silencer or go buy yourself a shampoo bottle of Pert Plus and stick the cap in there. It's a perfect fit and then just zip tie it real tight. Mine has been in there for quite a few years and hasn't fallen out yet.

That will fix your leak.

yes it will cause a bog because the air comming in through the hole is not being metered by the Maf, but capping it with a pert cap or herbal eessences bottle worked great for me going 2 years now. or if you wnat the silencer pm I have an extra one lying around.

Gary.

Yeah, your talking about the elbow. Underneath that there is a long donkey dick thing hanging. This is a silencer. Plug that hole up as I stated on my previous reply.

I believe that is the same bottle. Just pull your elbow off and check out the opening. It's kind of oval looking.

Looks like you found your problem. I have a side question.

How much different does the intake sound without the silencer?(with the silencer hole plugged hole of coarse)

you can do a search for Jason Cromer and order a 1LE intake elbow which has that air silencer deleted or you could just tape it shut with some duct tape i guess. either way you need to close off that leak.

You might want to add a "signature", including the year of your car, and other relevant information. Not all years are the same. For example, the above info applies to 94 and later models, running mass-air. The "unmeasured" air entering the opening, after the MAF sensor will cause a major bog.

However, if you own a 93, running speed-density you should not experience a bog, since that leak will not affect the air flow calculations significantly. Of course you would still be pulling dirty, unfiltered air into the engine......

why pay $60 for an elbow when you can just plug the hole?

Ever read a post about getting a shampoo bottle cap (or other item used as a plug) wedged in the throttle blades? I have.
