Should I replace my opti during a heads/cam install?

The answer does seem kind of obvious, and I know most of you will say yes. However I am going to question it. My car has 96,920 miles on the dot as it sits in my grandma's garage off the insurance. I have yet to have an optispark related problem with the car.

3 and a half years ago, I bought it with 78k on the clock, and honestly don't know if it was replaced or not. The only thing it's ever needed was a starter, and the car has been DEALER SEVICED since I got it. Seeing that there are some cars out there that go without ever needing them replaced, should I go ahead and replace it? Or leave well enough alone and keep the one that is in there? Tell me what you think.

If someone came to you with the exact same question and you knew exactly what the circumstances were, what would YOU say?

Well just my opinion but if its got no probs leave it alone lt1's seem to like getting the things wet and ruining them so why not leave it on as a pawn so ur car doesnt kill a new one then ya can fix the prob that went wrong and killed the old one and the new one will last another 96k but just like i said its just my opinion

I'd replace it because I'd be real pissed if I had to take it back apart in the next year because the opti went out.

If you don't mind taking the gamble, then I'd at least open it up and check it out. If there's no corrosion and the bearing seems fine, then just replace the cap & rotor instead of the whole thing.

Hmm well if everyone on this board turned to themselves to get answers for their own questions then not a whole lot of problems would get solved. I'm looking for people's opinions, not a philosophy lesson.

Steve,
I'm going to take your advice and do that. Good idea. Thanks.

Look heres a test that madwolf (aka ION ) take the to 5800 hundred rpm s if it misses a couple of time going to that rpm yes if it doesnt then get the msd version cap and rotor... I learned from his experiance he s a great honest guy. I replaced mine and bam no misses at high rpm.....dont just do it once maybe 3 4times see how the car feels.
