Absolutely incorrect. You can use whatever timing set you'd like and stick an offset crank key in there to resolve the problem.

Mine was just about 3* off, stuck a Mr. Gasket 987G offset crank key in the crank slot and brought it within 1*, and it was pretty much where I wanted it to be when I took into account chain slack over time.

I was able to tell +/- 1*, even with a small comp degree wheel. Bigger wheels would do even better.

$1800 A buddy's shop of mine around here does cam swaps for $425. Heads/cam for $650.

this is very good advice and i recommend the same, i even do this at work sometimes

Yea... when I heard that I was speechless. I was thinking more along $800-$1000 max. It's crazy. And that was if everything went smoothly... but it never does.
