Good street H/C combo?

What's a good H/C combo for my car? I'm looking to get low 12s on 3.42s or 3.73s on a 100% street setup NA w/ H/C and full exhaust bolt-ons and intake, ignition, injectors, etc. Let's just say my driving's up to it. I've seen people still get very good gas mileage (like same as stock) with agressive H/C and good tuning. What's up w/ that? I'd like to keep it within driveable limits (above 14 or 15) and like above 20 on the highway.

Any tips? Oh yea... no cats either and I'd be doing a kickass tuning job at the end.

Try a hotcam, stage 1 heads and a pcmforless program. This should put you about where you are looking at.
My little brother has a 96 Z with auto, 100k, K&N CAI, hooker longtubes,a nd offroad ypipe. He ran on street tires a 13.2 at like 104mph. He is about to have a local guy port his heads, install hotcam and necessary valvetrain upgrades, upgrade his PCM and use MT E/T streets. This should easily put him in the LOW 12s (12.0s to 12.3s).
He put down 282rwhp and like 320rwtq with the above setup. The guy doing his install said with above mods, he should be around the 350-360rwhp range.

Yeah, hotcam if you dont like a really agressive cam. But if you want to know theres a cam in the car get the XE224/230 or I think its a 218/224 is about the same as the hotcam. Definitely get 1.6s. Oh, make sure you get the recomendation from comp cams cuz they make three different grinds for the XE cams, all the same duration just different lifts and LSAs. I have the 224/230 and the down low torque is insane with lightly P/P heads and shorties. Plus you can definitely tell theres a cam in it, but it doesnt sound like its gonna stall except when its really really cold.

I did absolutely everything, including headers (150 used) for 1200, thats with a $350 heads/intake porting. I can email you a parts/price list if you want.

Please... hit me up at alexbarabas@earthlink.net

Would it be better to port/polish my heads or just get new ones?

Anybody got a price listing for the XE224/230 combo, I was gonna do the Hotcam kit, but maybe the XE grind might be better in the long run. With some tuning do you think it would be hard to pass a sniffer test?

Thanks

www.cmotorsports.com for $578 It's hard to say how you're car would fare in emissions testing; what are the hydrocarbon limits for a your car in CA? From what I've heard of people who pass sniffer with large cams, an "emissions tune" is necessary...but FWIW, I didn't even bother trying to pass with my XE230/236

Hey thanks for that price... I didn't see their pricing except for the camshafts themselves on their site. Also is that *just* for the cam, retainers, springs, locks, seals? What about rocker arms?

Thanks
