should I get a M6 or stick with A4

My transmission is done. I am going to take care of it over the winter.

First I have a 95camaro z28 LT1. I was wondering if I should stick with my A4 or should I install a M6? How much is the M6 to install?

I liked the A4, but I am looking for the best 1/4mile time. Which one will give me the best time?

These topics have been asked many many times. Do a search and you'll find all kinds of stuff. The cost of an M6 swap depends on how much of the work you can do yourself. I'd immagine it'll be rather pricey if you pay somebody, since there can be many complications. As for M6 vs. A4 track times......IMO a well driven stick can run as fast if not slightly faster than an auto, BUT for the 9 out of 10 times the auto will be more consistant.

I forgot to add.

Would it be a good investment to get a torque converter if I keep the automatic

Personally, I wouldn't buy an F-body without an M6. Then again, I don't take mine to the track that often. A4's can be much more consistent and easier to launch at the track, proving better times in most cases.

I just wouldn't own a sports car that wasn't manually driven, but that's me, and others feel differently.

I haven't heard anyone say "I wish I would have stayed with an A4", after switching to an M6.(either by swap, or whole new car)

If you keep the A4, add a stall...

A4 - add stall good daily driver and dont have to keep shifting when you cruise. One hell of a bummer when you have to replace or rebuild an 460le.

M6- Little more horsepower and you feel in more control of the car. You also have to replace the clutch every so often.

Its just up to you and how comfortable you are with each one.

a4- good for consistant times at the track, as fast as a m6 with the right converter.

m6-more fun on the street, u have to be a good driver to run consistant times.

I would say that if you are going to drag the car a lot go with the auto and a higher stall converter.

Look at the recent GMHTP. For under 2 grand you can have a tranny capable of holding 10sec 1/4 times. I paid 2K for my rebuild including my stall, 2 years and 4 months ago..no signs of slipping and the fluid is always in great shape when its changed out.
