It'll look something like this when he is done.

What kind of gains can be expected from having my intake ported by Lloyd on the motor in my sig? My motor is not 100% done yet, so if its worth it I'd like to do it before I start the engine for the first time... And how do I tell if I have the rectangle port of the tapered port LT1 intake?

All right, got my intake back from Lloyd, its all ready to go. here's a few pics of it

The insides don't look quite as shinny as the pic link in the previous post because the carb cleaner dulled it when I cleaned out the inside...but the outside is nice and clean now and gave it a shot of hi temp aluminum paint.

Does Lloyd do any welding by the injector bungs before porting the intake? If not, thats a big step being missed out on.

Pretty much everyone agrees that porting out the stock intake on a heads/cam car is well worth it. Don't know how much since I'm doing it all at once.

I'm not sure, I don't think he did on mine. Afriend has had his cut and welded on and has some extremely thin walls that Lloyd did, but the basic full port job I don't think did. Not even real sure of the area you're talking about as I don't see any other restrictions that would hurt flow since the runner looks to be pretty much even all the way thru now and the flow can only be as good as the tightest restiction area. That 3rd pic above is a shot of the under side of the injector bung of the runner if that helps any.

Any other pics I can take to help verify I can snap and post up, but better tell me tonight as I'm dropping it off in the morning at my friends shop to complete the cam/head install.

Re: Should I be concerned about LT1 intake on this setup being a restriction?

The way it was explained to me was;

TB holes ported out to 58mm
Intake roof raised behind the inj
As much of the ski slope as possible removed (without falling through)
Ports matched to heads.

3lbs of material removed from the intake

I know some shops weld on additional material to allow more porting.
That was not (as far as I can tell) what he did in this case.

Re: Should I be concerned about LT1 intake on this setup being a restriction?

The LT4 intake I run on my setup was welded behind the injector, then ported. That "ski jump" that you see in your pic, is eliminated on my intake. I used to have a before and after pic of a welded/ported intake port versus just a ported in take port somewhere, and the difference is pretty big. I believe it was some time ago, but Jordan Musser posted a pic of this done on an intake. I dont have any pics of my intake done, but my builder did tell me that a butt load of metal came out of it when all was said and done. Even with the welding done, he still broke through, and there is a nice coat of epoxy above the weld.

Re: Should I be concerned about LT1 intake on this setup being a restriction?

Ok, I think I see where ya'll are talking about. If I understand correctly, then extra metal would have to be added on the top side of the bung closest to the plenum. I think that was what was done for my friends LT4 as well as making it fit an LT1 casting head. From my understanding, Lloyd does not do that normally and if its required I think Denny said someone else did his cutting/welding on the intake. I don't think my 350 will need any more than what its got done to it though. Maybe an aftermarket one..if anyone ever produces it will have some of those things already in the casting fixed.
