Question Shorter Driveshaft for a 12 Bolt Rear?

I was wondering if it is a good I dea to shorten the Driveshaft for my 12 Bolt. When I installed it I had to have the 12 bolt on a jack to swing it back enought fo rthe shaft to fit in place. This was just to check the lenght with out the propper U joints. I'm guessing the shaft will fit but if the rear bounces up and down it will bottom out in the tranny? Does anyone have any input?

Yes you need a different driveshaft. Thats how i got my 1LE cheap, somebody upgraded to a 12 bolt. I don't know the length difference though.

The Moser 12-bolt seems to require a shorter DS in many cases. The Strange 12-bolt seems to work fine with the stocker... mine did.

Have a Moser 12 w/ stock vibeshaft on my '96. Vibeshaft went into the T-56 about 1/2" or more than stock.

How long did the stocker hold up?

I ran the car for about a year when it was still the bolt-on 350 w/ 125-shot and it never had any problems. When I did the stroker, I switched to a Mark Williams chrome moly, about 1/2" shorter than stock. That increases the clearance before it bottoms out in the tranny to almost 1"..... recommended over maybe 500HP??? Of course there was an ACPT extra heavy duty CF DS in before the MW, and it failed in "limp home" mode on the drive between the engine shop and the body shop....

With the Moser 12-bolt and T56 I needed a DS that was between 1/2" and 3/4" shorter than stock. Can't remember exactly how much shorter though. Having the DS yoke bottom out is not a very good thing.

rich-
you scared me for life when you didn't call me back. I am now untrusting of old people and particularly doctors. This makes it particularly difficult to get treated in the ER for things like spider bites and make my way up the coperate ladder. A 12 bolt and driveshaft will regain my trust in old farts and i will drop all charges

hope to meet you again soon-
