Shorted Tach Wire, Now What?
Shorted Tach Wire, Now What?
Hello;
I've got a '93 LT1 installed in a non-GM car and everything was fine. I sent the tach out to be calibrated and ran the wire from the (Painless) harness to the instrument cluster area in anticipation of reinstalling the gauges. I started the car and the tach wire (which I stupidly left hanging) shorted out to the body momentarily and shut the car down. It did blow the fuse that powers the computer, but I replaced it and since then I have no spark.
I'm assuming I killed either the computer or the optispark...can I get some help on this?
Also, I have a madz28 chip in this car and I'm also wondering if this could have been damaged.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks -
Doug

Re: Shorted Tach Wire, Now What?
It would be really strange for that to damage the computer. Did you check all the fuses? If you have a code scanner then trying to scan for codes will tell if some part of the computer is working. If you have some way to monitor electrical signals, like an oscilloscope or access to one you could check to see if the ignition module is getting signals from the computer to fire the coil.
That is where I would start.
