My 97SS spun one with 8K on the clock. Bought a short block (4-bolt) for 1750 incl shipping and 4700 later a new motor.

Mech. couldn't find an oil cooler so he deleted it on the new shortblock.

Didn't want to take a chance on ruining new motor with contaminated oil cooler.

Suggest you take that into consideration.JMHO

Budget short block:
Stock Main caps with ARP studs
Check stock crank and machine if needed
SCAT rods
Ross Pistons or JE
Machine block .030 over
Install new cam bearings, freeze plugs
Add Clevite main bearings and assemble, balance
Purchase timing chain
and you have a solid budget 355.
