Well, I finally got my engine put in and all the wiring done. I put all fluids in EXCEPT water........started it........and DAMN it sounded killer with the cc306, run perfect!!!! I was SOOO happy. So, I killed it after about 5 min. of listening to it. (open jet-hots how could I shut it off any faster? lol). Anyways, I started putting water in it and when I got the water to the heads it started pouring water . Come to find out the machine shop that I had do my heads left out the water plugs in the front of my heads!!!! Neadless to say I was PISSED!!!I got water all over the coil(msd), optispark, and everything on the front of the engine. So I took off the alt. ..........power steering........a/c bracket and pluged both heads up. Went in to start the car and it started to turn over and went click-click-click ( you know the click) so I looked under the hood and the grounding strap conected to the coil stud was smoking!!!! I unhooked the grounding strap as fast as I couldand it was arching and sparking while I did so I know it had juice going to it. Unhooked the battery also. I looked around for obvious wire problems...........none. Hooked up the battery and starting seemore smoke from around coil starter PCM Now I'm REALLY pissed. What's the best way to look for a short??? Any help would be appreciated. Micheal

 

I'm pretty sure that mine did'nt have plugs in the heads when I got it back. I would prolly pull the coil off, put the stocker back on and see if it does it again. you might have shorted something. I would even try drying the ignition module with compressed air. Hope this helps. Mike

I have got to give you credit............that was FUNNY!! I did put the ground on but, I could not get it on the motor mount so I took off a nut on the wheel well and bolted it to it. First I had it bolted to the alt. bracket but did not like the way it looked so I moved it. Does it HAVE to be bolted to the engine? Thank you very much for your reply.

 

Yes it needs to be grounded to the engine. What I wound up doing was grounding it through the accessory bracket using the top most bolt. Hell of a lot easier that messing with it down there.

 

AHHHH!! thank you....thank you......thank you. Now to find out what all the dumbas* fried (me)lol. I will try to put mine in the same spot.

 

I can't believe it...............all that smoke and nothing was fried. It was the starter hot wire from battery...................the insulation had broke off and it was shorting out to the starter. It runs GREAT!!! The transmission feels really weak though. I put 8 quarts of transmission fluid in it How many should it take? I have a new 9" converter and trans cooler figured it take alot but damn I'm still a quart low. Seems like a lot of fluid to me.
