Ticking noises from my engine

Hey-guys and gals,

I have a 96 Z28 camaro and all of a sudden I have been hearing this ticking noise that is coming from the engine. When I go from 1st to 2nd gear I hear the noise as I increase the RPM's to get into the next gear. As I upshift to 4th and 5th the noise get louder and faster but if I keep my speed steady I no longer hear the noise. Someone told me that it could be a valve tick which I know nothing about. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

A little history on the car. I have had the for the last 8 years, I bought it new in 96. In 02 I blew the engine out because I neglected changing the rediator after i discovered a small hole in it which lead to me blowing the heads of the engine. Since having the engine rebuilt, I rearly ever drive the car. I only start it up once a month and maybe drive on nice hot california days with the top off. I just recently notice this noise when taken it for a spin around the corner.

Any information you give would be greatly appreciated!

Ironthumb.

Sounds like you may have an exhaust leak..if you just did the heads then you must have had the exhaust manifolds off check for leaks there....also could be a sticky lifter or not properly tightend rocker also caused by having the heads off.
