Shift Kit for Automatic

My buddy told me to get some sort of aftermarket **** kit for my car. He says it would make it shift much better. What do you think of his?

They have a B&M Shift Kit, and a Transgo Shift Kit. I have the B&M and it works great. It has nice firm shifts

basically all a shift kit is is a few gaskets n such that make your tranny line pressure a little higher...i never went with those...i just plug in my labtop to my PCM and have Ion program me a tune for firmer shifts (boosting the pressure)...mine shifts perfect at partial throttle and snaps necks at WOT.

not to mention that quicker firmer shifts is better for your 4L60E,,the clutches n such are not spiining as much searching for grip and causes less heat/friction.

I have a TransGo in mine and it shifts very firm. I would suggest it if you decide to get a shift kit.

Question ?

i've always been told that if you increase your shift firmness
by line pressure and not by a mechcanical version ,that
you wiil prematurly wear out your transmission sooner
and looking at big bucks to fix it.

get the shift kit and don't mess with the line pressure. its not the best way to improve your shift performance.

FEW real shops will recommend anything but the Transgo for the 4L60E it is widely considered the best for this tranny. The B&M does little more than boost line pressure the Transgo fixes inhearant flaws as well as upping pressures. The B&M shift plus electronic dodad is $1 worth of resistors with $39 worth of plastic and wires, and ups pressures at all times which can make slow speed stuff very bangy and just not good, at least if you go through the pcm you can keep things more progressive. Also extremely hard jaring shifts just beat the hell out of hard parts so you break those instead of wearing clutches, the right way to do it is to find a good balance, not so hard as to snap stuff and quick enough as to not fry clutches.

If you call pro-built.net Dana will discuss your application with you and make notes as to what he recommends you set the Transgo up at, just so happens he has a good price on the Transgo as well.

I'm planning to purchase a transgo shift kit myself. How hard are they to install? What tools do I need? and what do I need to know (precaution wise). I'm also planning to rebuild my transmission, how much work is it?
