I have a 3k mile old delco egr valve, 2k mile old iac motor (new), and pcv vavle is about 8k miles old.

I am thinking o2's on mine. But to let you all know my car has that little shake at idle when my iac (per scanner) show the motor moving around on iac... i think it is normal really the more i think about it.

I'm starting to think I should worry about it, but the shake is more stronger then other... But as I said early, It runs great the whole RPM range and I cant remember it doing it about 20k ago.... Weird... Does autozone sell the pcv grommet as well ?

my car is surging at idle when the car warms up, it just started this last week after I took a 750 mile trip. It has a slight hesitation under slight acceleration. I just cleaned out the iac and throttlebody (removed them both from car) to no avail. The only other thing I think it could be is the egr valve. I am gonna take it in to get it diagnosed and or hook it up to my buddies scanner to see what the hell is going on. I hate this stupid surge (mine is a surge not a shake) My rpms jump up and down from about the 600 range to 800 range. It sounds like an injector isnt firing or somtin outside the car. I am stumped and somewhat aggravated. Thanks, Michael

Hey, "fozziez28", that's exactly how my car does. After it warms up the RPM's fluctuate between around 600-800 and also my voltage gauge moves a little. When you get your car scanned please respond back to me, so I can try and figure this out as well.

shaky idle

I have the same problem with my 95 z28. I know a mechanic here in the Dallas area who works on quite a few of these engines. He has a 383 stroker with a 6 speed in a s 10 truck. He say's you can tune and replace parts all day, but untill you get all the carbon out of the intake and combustion chambers, the engine will never run as smoothe as new.

He says the motorvac carbon clean machines do this best, but the closest I can find to that is City Garage has a Sun machine that does the service. It cleanes your injectors and a seperate fitting feeds a solution into your throttle body. It's 137.00, I'm going to have it don in the near future.

Would seafoam be a cheap alternative?

Shaky Idle

A couple other things I found on my car was the air injection check valves on top of the exhaust manifolds. If one or both are passing air the wron way (exhaust gas) it will make you car idle funny, sort of like a chug chug thing. Also check your exhaust and intake manifold bolts, especially aroud # 7 and cylinders. Also check your egr and egr cross over tube bolts.

No, sea foam or any other cleaner won't work as well. These machines deliver this stuff while your car is running over about a 15 minute period of time. From what I hear, you don't notice a big difference at firstbut after you drive it a while the results are dramatic. this is barring you don't have a problem some where else.

Ya, I am going to take my car in on weds. This just started after I took a long trip with rpms in the 2800-3k range for like 10 hours. It ran perfect before then. I know the dealer does a service on them for like 235 or so. I dont know anyone who has used it though. Thanks, Michael

that is so wierd because after i did a 90 mile trip my car surged right after i came to the first stop afterward, like i came from a friends house who lives about 45 miles away, came back, returned a movie, and boom, surging away. Didnt do it again for a year, but then it back

Add backfiring now during the slight acceleration/hesitation thing. I just changed the damn opti, so it had better not be that. That was a major pain and I will be real pissed if i have to do it again. I am gonna take it in tomorrow morning. I will keep you posted. I'm thinking egr based on reading my chilton book or maybe 02's. I dont have any codes, but i've heard are cars are notorious for not throwing a lot of codes (gm obd1 at least). I will let you know what they say. Thanks, michael
