Question SES light when driving long distance

I occasionally get an SES light when I drive long distances on the Interstate. I wait about 5 minutes, then restart the engine and the SES light is no longer on.

I scan for codes and there is no code, but I've only scanned it when the SES light is not on anymore.

What do you think this could be? I think it could be running rich, or my O2's are screwed.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I had a similar problem until I read a post about taking of the MAP sensor and give it a little cleaning. I haven't seen the SES light since then.

Hello,
Thanks for the replies.

I changed my fuel filter about 2000 miles ago.

I don't have an EGR system.

I'll check out the MAP sensor.

Thanks!

I'm having the exact same problem. The light only comes on during long trips on the interstate. I think it has something to do with us removing the EGR system. It's been happening to me for 3 years and I keep perfect maintenance on everything, so I know its not the fuel filter, O2s, etc. Let me know if you find out anthing.

You should definitely start this again in a new post. The last time someone viewed this was in December of last year If you want to reference this post just copy the link and paste it into your post. You will get a much better response from that. Good Luck...

If it hasn't been disabled, you can still get a code, or SES light. I had that problem before tuning.

How long has it been since you have done 02's? If it has been over 20k, get new ones and see.

Good luck, and post your results!

I replaced my O2s about 5k ago. I always change all fluids, sensors, etc. when they are due. It has to be an EGR code. Looks like the only way to get rid of it is to get some tuning done.
