Question Long Tube Guys.... Does your starter get to hot?

I have been having issues with my starter getting to hot from my Long Tubes. There is plenty of clearance IMO & I even have a heat wrap on the starter. When I start the car when cool it fires right up. However if I am driving for about 20 minutes, then shut the car off for 5 minutes, then go to start it again it has a very hard time starting. (Almost doesn't) I am assuming that the starter is getting sever heat soak from the LT's. Anyone expierience this? The starter has been re-built.

The starter is probably one of the only things I have been blessed not to have a problem w/ so far.

Sorry to hear you're having a problem though. G'luck w/ coming up w/ a solution.

my solinoid went after the longtubes, but has been working great ever since the new one, it was only 25-30 bucks, so not such a big deal, yours sounds pretty annoying to deal with, don't they make a plate to go over it like other engines?

I dont think I was having problems with my starter but for insurance I went to a DEI versa shield. My Z fires up every time and now even better with a new fuel filter. It also seemed to fire up better when the car was warm as well.

I notice you have FLPs, I have Hooker jet hot coated LTs and I have not seen a problem with heat soak. It has been very hot here in KC as well and no problems with the starter.
I too bought a DEI heat shield thinking I might have a problem with the starter but so far not a hint of heat soak.
That heat shield is sitting there just in case I ever need it.

Well I am starting to think my starter is tired...... It is original & maybe not liking the heat. It is clear of the headers by a good solid 2" or more.... I dunno... I hate seeing some friends after a long drive then have to start the car again. It almost doesn't turn over..... Kinda embarrassing....
