Service Manual /Serpetine belt

Hey guys!

I was wondering if there was a good manual for the 93-97 Camaro so I could pore through its pages and figure out how this stuff works.

Also, I need to replace the serpetine belt on my car--the mechs want $83 for it, but it looks like it could be a simple DIY job (I mean come on, there is a picture right when you pop the hood)

Just to be safe, anyone have any hints on going about doing it myself? Thanks in advance!!

=)

Replacing the belt is easy. You will need to do it from underneath to reach the tensioner. Release the tension and pull the belt off the crank pulley. Thread the new belt on except for the crank pulley, pull the tensioner back and slip the belt over the crank pulley.

If you really want the best manual, the factory service manual is by far the best. Find a used one on Ebay or other online used manual resellers for the best value. New, they are ~$120. Expect to pay half of that or less for a used set.

Ouch- did they even offer you any lube when they quoted you that rape price?? Let me guess, they probably told you that its a real pain to get to and that it would take specialized tools too..

Its really irritating when shops do that sort of thing..but I guess its one way to stay in business.

It'll take you longer to get the front end high enough to crawl under it than it will to change the belt.

Yeah, I once took my wife's Grand Prix to the dealer for a recall and while it was there they said they could change the belt for $75. I said "no thanks".
