Serious header question...anyone with SLP headers please help!

Alright. SLP says that all you need to install your headers are the SLP installation kit. After looking at the headers, it doesn't look like the ends of the headers will fit the ends of a y-pipe unless you have flanges for it. Well, the SLP install kit doesn't come with any flanges and I'm worried that it won't fit correctly. Can someone please help me? I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, I tried to see if SLP had a Y-pipe for my 97 model and they only carry one up to the 95 model. I could have sworn I saw one for my car in a magazine, but it's not on their website. I figured their Y-pipe would match up w/ the headers, but I can't even seen to find one. Please help!

BTW, I purchased 1 3/4" shorties

You have a couple of options on what you can do in the situation. You can either get a custome y-pipe made from your local exaust shop. Or you can buy one from mac performance or Borla. Several companies make after market y-pipe sthat will fit your car. And to tell you the truth I wouldnt even mess with slp shortie headers. Too me there just not worth the trouble. Plug access stinks and they burn through wires like theres no tomarro. If you do buy these headers your going to have to be very creative on how you rought #'s 6 and 8 too make sure they dont get burned. Other than that there goos headers .

Hey Man,
I bought some SLP 1 3/4" uncoated Stainless steel headers a few years back. I did have to use their installation kit.
The headers bolted directly to my factory Y-pipe. I can't recall seeing any flanges either. I don't have any leaks in that area.
Only at the back of the engine on the pass. side where the header flange was a little warped.
Hope this helps

If you get the headers for a dual cat car (95+ automatic and 96+ manual transmission), they bolt to the stock Y-pipe. I don't think they would be much benefit over the stock manifolds, considering the limited room.

If you don't have to worry about emissions, you can use the single-cat setup and install O2 simulators for the post-cat O2 sensors. I think that would be a better option. For the most part, I doubt people at the smog places would even notice that you had a single cat setup.

i just put some on.......broke a bolt though.....set me back about 2 grand. had to have the head pulled and sent to a machinist. DON"T BREAK A BOLT!!!! when you take them out.....rock them....if it gets tight screw it back in and out back and forth till it losens and use a lot of PB Blaster.

But anyway.......they are hard to install. i have a single cat 94 and the y-pipe on the slp headers come with flanges that bolt up with the headers.....even have gaskets in there install kit so it won't leak..i upgraded to dead-soft aluminum gaskets on the heads..........one thing though the bolts are short, so you have to really torque them with the dead soft aluminum gaskets.....with stock gaskets i don't know.......had a bolt fall out

anyway i got their headers and install kit and it went in good...........except for the AIR pump stuff.....and hard to stuff under there....lol

Call SLP and ask for JOE<<<<he is good.....that is who i always talk to

hope that helps<<<<white Knight

Random Technologies is who makes a Y-PIPE for a dual cat set up I have it but haven't evem pulled them out of the box yet. I have SLP 1 3/4 headers too, they bolt right up to the stock Y-PIPE.

The headers bolt right on to the stock Y-pipe. You don't have to have the installation kit (I did mine without one), but I guess it would help if you had it. If you don't get the installation kit, get some nice bolts and gaskets. You also need a lot of patience because they are a PITA to install. It took me forever to tighten the bolts, since there isn't much space to work with. Also, make sure to use heat-sleeving where necessary, the headers do come very close to the spark plug wires.
