A friend recently put plugs and wires in his car, the wires being Accel. Anyway, he noticed the car was missing, and found two bad wires due to them getting cut on the alt. pully. He replaced them, and the car ran fine until he washed it yesterday. He looked at the wires again, and found a bad wire, replaced with the original wires he was using. Now the car is missing yet again, but there is no arcing or anything. The miss is very obvious when you give it just a little bit of gas. Could the bad wires have screwed up the plug that wire went to? Any ideas? The injectors all read 14.8, but one reads 14.9. The fuel pressure is at 50 which is what they have this 355 set to, and no check engine lights come on this 94Z. Thanks.
fuel presure is High. The manual says 41 to 47 with hose off. Which is WOT setting. With hose on the reading should 3 to 10 psi lower. It is possible that he has fouled a spark plug where the wire was arching.
We did check for arcing last night, it was pitch dark, and saw nothing unfortunately. He has an adjustable fuel regulator, and since he had his built 355 done, he has run it at that. Can that lead to problems like this? He is also running some rather large injectors at this time.
Don't run it long with a miss. but check the exhaust manifold temp at each cylinder with an infrared thermometer. When you find the cylinder with the low temp, pull the plug wire off while it's running if you can get to it and see if the engine runs any rougher when the plug wire is off then when it's on. Now pull the suspect plug and put a new one on the wire and lay it on the block and crank it over to see if it has spark. If spark ok, throw the new plug in and try it.
