Sent this email to Comp Cams

I am a Moderator on an F-body discussion board, www.cz28.com, where problems with your beehive springs have surfaced. The following threads will be representative: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=513691 and http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=525349

Do you have any comment on defects with these springs? No response within three days will be noted and posted to the various message boards which I frequent.

Thank you.

I emailed them a couple months ago about the first such thread that was on this board.

Never got a response, but the thread was deleted the next day...

thank you for doing this. I think we need to send them something a bit more professional, with pictures of blown up engines and batch numbers.

Well, some of that info is in the threads I referenced. If I get no response we can do that.

I think we need to get the emails and numbers of the guys higher up in the chain of command over there. Otherwise we'll probably get a reply from some support jockey that get's paid $8.25 an hour and drives a minivan, so he doesn't know jack diddly about what were talking about.

two things come to minds though..

1. Recall
2. Class action suit.

This is a real slap in the face though... you spend over $400 for a good valvetrain setup you expect it to work.

there are half a dozen threads going right now on this topic on three of four different forums, but I've got THIS thread running on a couple of them and it serves as a running list of the batch #s that people have reported to me after experiencing a failure.

Just to hazard a guess, I don't think we will get any answer but I'd like to be pleasantly surprised. Time will tell.

Surprise, no answer from Comp. I am through with their products until this is resolved.

Well, the next time we read/hear about a new product, e.g. a spring shaped like a bee hive that is supposed to be the be all end all innovation, perhaps we should look before we leap. I questioned it right away, because I'm not an engineer and it just sounded odd-----but then again, it may well be the quality of a particular batch rather than an engineering flaw.

Anyway, when one of you would like to explain the basis for designing a spring shaped like a bee hive, I would really like to know the theory behind the concept.

Thanks much.

I've had several problems this year with aftermarket LT1 performance parts; new large capacity oil pan w/ two leaks, thick powder-coating on a flexplate that caused problems, two rear wheels (name brand $$$) for my slicks that didn't match and a rotor that fell off my new opti due to loose screws.

Now I've also got my Comp 918 beehives to worry about! I can’t handle much more performance part stress this year!

Additionally, I’m starting to see a real pattern how most manufacturers deal with their product failures. First, no real acceptance of responsibility for their product, no apparent desire to correct the problem and no real sense of urgency to help you get your problem resolved in a timely manner. For example; when my opti failed, I had to pay for the over-night express to get the parts quickly and not miss another bracket race.

I guess these performance parts companies have so much business and are making so much money, if you call them and you’re “Joe Nobody” they just don’t really care.
